Michel Lotito, known as Monsieur Mangetout, which translates to Mr. Eats All, made a successful career in France by eating things that you probably wouldn’t think possible, such as an entire airplane, 18 bicycles, 15 shopping carts and countless other items that would kill a normal person.
Born in 1950, Lotito started eating strange things to impress his friends way back in 1959. Some sources have claimed that he suffered from Pica, a rare eating disorder that causes an individual to have cravings for usually inedible objects like dirt. However, other sources fail to mention it.
Either way, Lotito’s uniquely thick stomach allowed him to eat almost anything he wanted. Noticing his strange talent, Lotito decided to become an entertainer around 1966. His most notable meal was a Cessna 150, an airplane, which took over two years to eat bit by bit. “Lotito also ate 15 shopping carts, seven television sets, six chandeliers, two beds, a coffin and a small section of the Eiffel Tower,” reports CBS.
To ensure his often sharp or metallic meals slid down into his stomach without damaging his body, Lotito would drink large amounts of mineral oil as a lubricant for his throat. He has also claims that he never had trouble passing his food either. Despite his seemingly poisonous diet, the only thing that upset his stomach was, oddly, bananas.
Sadly, after eating over nine tons of metal over the course of his eating career, Lotito died in 2007 of natural causes.
