Since drones are seemingly everywhere from war zones to suburban parks, it’s safe to say that most militaries are focused on conquering the skies with new, bird-like gadgets. However, despite this trend, Russia has just announced a new line of robotic cockroaches—a creepy crawler that Russia loves—that may see weaponization in the future.

According to Popular Science, the new robotic cockroaches, named Death’s Head, was developed by researchers from Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University. Like most commercially available drones, the roach has a 20-minute battery life, which seems to limit its effectiveness by a significant amount. After all, what would happen if your war roach ran out of juice in the middle of a mission?

So far, the team claims that the roach can carry a 10-gram payload, a decent enough size to see use as a weapon down the road. Besides actual weapons, the roach is more equipped to carry a small spy camera that can infiltrate buildings and other areas that may hold military intelligence.

Despite the implications, there has been no official report indicating that the roach will see use in the military right away, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t in the future.
